The tractor market in 2025 was characterized by an overall slowdown in demand but significant structural differentiation. Intelligent and high-end products bucked the trend with growth, and the export market performed strongly.

I. Overall Market Trends

    1. Slowing Demand and Structural Differentiation: The tractor market in 2025 continued the downward trend that began in 2023. From January to March, the combined output of large, medium, and small tractors decreased by 7.7% year-on-year, with small tractors experiencing a significant drop of 27.9%. However, the output of large tractors bucked the trend, increasing by 6.1%, demonstrating the resilience of high-end demand. The market exhibited a dual-track characteristic of "increasing proportion of economical, low-horsepower models" and "higher added value of high-horsepower, high-end products."

    2. Strong Export Performance: China's agricultural machinery exports increased by 26.5% year-on-year, with exports to countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative increasing by 29%, and the African market seeing a 46.6% increase. The increased export proportion of high-end models such as power shift and continuously variable transmission (CVT) models drove the trade surplus to expand to US$8.63 billion.

II. Key Influencing Factors

    1. Policy-Driven: Agricultural machinery purchase subsidies are tilted towards "superior machinery, superior subsidies," with subsidies for intelligent tractors reaching as high as 40%.

The implementation of the National IV emission standard for non-road vehicles is accelerating industry reshuffling, with technologically backward enterprises facing elimination.

    2. Technological Upgrades: The penetration rate of power shift and continuously variable transmission (CVT) technologies is increasing, with sales expected to reach 34,900 units and 700 units respectively in 2025.

The application of intelligent technologies such as Beidou navigation and AI algorithms is driving the commercialization of driverless tractors.

    3. Macroeconomic Factors: Low grain prices and extreme weather are suppressing consumer purchasing power, making installment payment plans the main sales method.

III. Major Market Dynamics

    1. Regional Differences: North China (Hebei, Shandong) and Northwest China (Gansu, Henan) are the main sales drivers, accounting for over 40%, but the Northeast region saw a significant decline (Jilin -64%).

    2. Brand Competition: Weichai Lovol (19.2%) and China YTO (17.5%) dominate the market share, while smaller brands are rapidly exiting the market. YTO's overseas sales increased by 29.4%, with outstanding performance in the African and Central and Eastern European markets.

    3. Product Iteration: Small and medium-horsepower models such as the 504 (41%) and 704 (13%) dominate sales, but high-horsepower models such as the 2004 have an average unit price exceeding 230,000 yuan, contributing the main profits. Shandong Shifeng holds a 97% market share in the belt-driven wheeled tractor market in Tibet.
