Some walking tractor drivers cannot fully shut off the throttle from their seats and must get out of the tractor and manually pull the speed control lever to turn it off.
This is caused by two main reasons: First, the throttle lever and connecting plate assembly are not properly installed, preventing the speed control lever from being in its highest position when the throttle lever is in its lowest position. Second, the throttle connecting plate (located on the lower left side of the timing gear cover) is not properly installed; its small end is facing upwards or to the left, resulting in insufficient preload of the torsion spring. When the throttle lever is in the off position, the connecting plate assembly does not have enough force to pull the speed control lever to the highest off position, thus preventing the throttle from being fully shut off.
The solution for installing the throttle connecting plate: First, insert one end of the torsion spring into the small hole of the connecting plate, and then fit the torsion spring and connecting plate onto the assembly. Next, pass the fastening bolt through the assembly and initially tighten it onto the machine body. Then, use your left hand to twist the torsion spring, applying preload so that the small end of the connecting piece is positioned approximately 15° to the lower left. Finally, tighten the bolts to secure the assembly.
