Cigarettes can be used to diagnose and repair tractor malfunctions, proving particularly useful in temporary emergencies or under limited conditions. The methods are as follows:
First, use the smoke-blowing method to check the vents on the transmission, rear axle housing, steering gear housing, and engine crankcase gas check valve (PCV) for blockages. Repair or replace as needed. Blockages in these components will increase internal pressure, easily leading to oil leaks and malfunctions.
Second, use the smoke-blowing method to check the carburetor's fuel passages for blockages. Carburetors have many fuel and vacuum lines, especially imported carburetors. After cleaning, they often need to be cleared with compressed air, but it's difficult for operators to determine which fuel or vacuum passages are truly clear, resulting in frequent rework. The smoke-blowing method makes it easy to determine the blockage of each fuel or vacuum passage.
Third, use the smoke-blowing method to check the valve and valve seat seals. Clean the ground valves and place them sequentially into the valve guides. Hold the valve in place with your hand or a suitable tool (such as a screwdriver handle). Then, take a puff of smoke and blow it into the cleaned intake and exhaust manifold openings, sealing your mouth against the manifold openings to prevent leaks. Simultaneously observe whether smoke comes out between the valve and valve seat. If no smoke comes out, the valve is properly sealed; otherwise, it should be reground.
Fourth, use tobacco to patch leaks. If you encounter a water tank leak while driving, you can use tobacco as a temporary emergency measure. First, use pliers to flatten the larger leaking radiator fins. Then, unscrew the water filler cap and remove the thermostat (to plug it). Next, crush the tobacco and put it into the water tank through the filler neck. Start the engine and run it at low, medium, and high speeds. The tobacco will be absorbed by the leaking water in the radiator core tube. Once the water tank leak is blocked, replace the filler cap and you can drive. However, it should be noted that this is only for emergency use. After returning home, the water tank should be cleaned with high-pressure water and thoroughly repaired by welding.
