Key Points of Tractor and Agricultural Implement Maintenance

I. Preparations Before Maintenance

1. Cleaning. Thoroughly remove oil, dirt, and crop residue from the machine's surfaces. This not only helps to detect hidden cracks or deformations but also prevents debris from entering the system during disassembly.

2. Tool Preparation. Prepare a full range of specialized tools (such as socket wrenches, torque wrenches, etc.). Avoid using adjustable wrenches or levers to avoid rough handling that could damage nuts or components.

3. Safety Measures. The tractor should be parked on level ground, with the engine off and stable. Suspended implements must be lowered or reliably supported. Maintenance under implements without support is strictly prohibited.

II. Tractor Maintenance
After being idle during the winter, tractors should undergo a comprehensive maintenance and upkeep before spring plowing to ensure they are in good technical condition and can be safely and efficiently put into spring plowing.

(I) Engine Maintenance

1. Check the lubrication system. 1. If the lubricating oil has been drained before winter shutdown, refill with seasonal lubricating oil. After refilling, let it stand for ten minutes and check that the oil dipstick is level with the upper line. Let it stand for another 20-30 minutes and check for any changes in oil level. If there are changes, find the cause. At the same time, replace or clean the air filter, diesel filter, and oil filter, keeping them clean and unobstructed. For turbocharged engines, remove the hollow bolt at the turbocharger's suspension bearing oil inlet, drip a few drops of lubricating oil, and then reinstall it to prevent dry friction during startup.

2. Check the cooling system. Focus on checking for engine damage from freezing. Carefully inspect the engine block, water plugs, drain plug, oil cooler, etc., for signs of freezing and cracking. Due to the large temperature difference between day and night in Gansu, never add cold water immediately when the engine is hot to avoid cylinder block cracking. Add soft water to the level of the radiator opening and let it stand for one hour to observe if the water level drops.

3. Check the electrical system. 1. Check the starting, lighting, and instrument circuits for proper functioning. Ensure all electrical accessories are insulated and free from leakage or short circuits. When the battery is low, charge it with one-tenth of its rated current. When charging lead-acid batteries, open the filler cap to prevent excessive pressure and explosion due to blocked vents.

4. Check the starting system. Before starting, place the main and auxiliary gear levers in neutral and the hydraulic power unit in the middle position. Open the small window on the flywheel housing and use a small pry bar to rotate the crankshaft several times to distribute the lubricating oil evenly before starting the engine. After starting, run at low speed first, then gradually increase the engine speed while observing the instruments and listening carefully. If any abnormalities are detected, immediately stop the engine and inspect and troubleshoot the problem.

(II) Chassis Inspection

1. Check the lubricating oil. Check the lubricating oil levels in the transmission, front axle, and end drive; check the grease levels in the steering gear (mechanical) or hydraulic oil tank (hydraulic). 2. Inspect the steering mechanism. Check the tightness of components such as the tie rod ball joints and steering drop arms, ensuring reliable cotter pin locking. For mechanically steering tractors, the steering wheel play should be controlled between 15 and 30 mm; for hydraulically steering tractors, the free turn angle of the steering wheel should not exceed 30°. If steering mechanism parts are damaged or cracked, welding repairs are prohibited; replace them directly with new parts.

3. Inspect the braking system. Check the brake fluid level; if insufficient, add the same type of brake fluid, and do not mix different types. Check the brake pedal free travel, maintaining it at 10-15 mm, and ensuring the left and right pedal heights are synchronized to prevent deviation during braking. Regularly lubricate the pedal shafts with grease, and apply a suitable amount of lubricating oil to all hinge points. Check and adjust the clearance between the brake shoes and brake drum to maintain good technical condition. (III) Adjustment and Connection with Implements

1. The driveshaft must match the PTO spline specifications of the tractor. The mating length of the driveshaft should be no less than 200 mm to prevent detachment or jamming.

2. Adjust the tractor's upper tie rod and left and right suspension rods to ensure the implement frame is level both longitudinally and laterally, guaranteeing consistent tillage depth.

3. Adjust the lower suspension arm limit screws to align the implement's lateral centerline with the tractor's longitudinal centerline. The pins connecting the lower suspension tie rod and left and right suspension rods should be positioned in the elongated hole position to allow the implement to conform to the terrain during operation.

4. During operation, the hydraulic system distributor should be in the floating position to allow the implement to move with the terrain. Check the hydraulic pump and pipelines for leaks; replace any excessively dirty or contaminated hydraulic oil promptly. III. Agricultural Machinery Inspection and Maintenance Agricultural machinery is in constant contact with soil, operates under heavy workloads, and suffers severe wear and tear. To avoid delaying farming seasons, extend its service life, and ensure its good condition, a comprehensive inspection and maintenance should be carried out before spring use. The overall maintenance of agricultural machinery should meet the requirements of "three flexibilityes," "five no's," and "one intact condition." "Three flexibilityes" refer to flexible operation, flexible rotation, and flexible lifting. "Five no's" refer to no jamming, no dulling, no deformation, no rust, and no missing parts. "One intact condition" refers to being in good technical condition.

(I) Reversible Plow: Inspect the plowshare, plowshare, and other components. If the plowshare blade thickness is greater than 3 mm, or if the shovel tip is severely worn, causing difficulty in soil entry and shallow tillage, it must be ground, repaired, or replaced. Tighten bolts, add lubricating grease, check tire pressure and hydraulic lines, and test the reversing function to ensure it is normal. During operation, adjust the soil entry angle to 3–10°. The more plow bodies there are, the smaller the soil entry angle should be. Control the tillage depth to 20–40 cm. Ensure the plow frame is parallel to the ground and the plow column is perpendicular to the ground as much as possible. Observe the operation at all times; if blockages or severe weed entanglement are found, clear them promptly. Avoid long-distance transport in a suspended state as much as possible. During maintenance and repair, ensure reliable support or hydraulic locking. (II) Rotary Tiller

Check for oil leaks at both ends of the blade shaft oil seals, and for worn or broken blades. When replacing rotating parts such as blades, the tractor must be turned off to prevent accidental injury. Check if the rotary tiller blades are installed backwards and if the fixing bolts and universal joint locking pins are secure; use only after confirming they are secure. Check the transmission gear oil level and the bevel gear meshing clearance; excessive or insufficient clearance can cause malfunctions. Check the clearance between the drive shaft spline and the blade shaft bushing; severely worn parts must be replaced as a set. When engaging, pay attention to the angle between the tractor's power take-off shaft and the rotary tiller's input shaft; it should ideally be less than 10°. The rotary tiller should be kept level left and right, with the input shaft and the tractor's power take-off shaft on the same center line. Never start the machine directly with the rotary tiller blades in the soil; never reverse or turn after the blades are in the soil.

(III) Seeder

Clean debris and dust from the seed metering device, check if the seeding rate adjustment mechanism is flexible, and inspect... Check the wear and tear of the seed metering wheel, fertilizer metering wheel, and furrow opener tip; promptly replenish or replace any missing or damaged parts. For precision seeders, check the sealing of the air-suction seed metering device and replace worn seed discs. Adjust the row spacing of the seeder according to local agronomic requirements, using the center line of the seeder beam as a reference line, and move the seeding unit and fertilizer furrow opener symmetrically to the left and right. Adjust the sowing depth according to the operating conditions; too deep will hinder germination, while too shallow will cause drought, and ensure consistent sowing depth. Check whether the ground wheels rotate flexibly, whether the chain tension is appropriate, and whether the transmission gears mesh normally. Maintain a constant speed and straight line during sowing; do not stop midway or suddenly slow down to avoid missed sowing or double sowing. If the working parts and transmission parts are covered with too much soil or grass, you must stop and clean them; it is strictly forbidden to clean them by hand during operation.

(IV) Auxiliary Driving System
Focus on checking whether the satellite antenna on the roof has physical damage and whether the wiring connections are secure. Check for aging, damage, or looseness. Clean dust and foreign objects around the antenna to avoid signal obstruction. Check the tightness of the angle sensor and check for oxidation or poor contact of the wiring harness plug. For the electric steering wheel system, check if the motor mounting bolts are tight and if the drive belt or gears are worn; for the hydraulic system, check the hydraulic lines for leaks. Check if the power supply line is correctly drawing power from the main power supply and if the fuse is intact. Check if the display terminal is working properly; if not, contact the manufacturer immediately to replace the parts. After starting the vehicle, observe whether the RTK status can enter the "fixed" state within 2-3 minutes and does not frequently degrade during driving to ensure stable signal reception.

(V) Plant Protection Machinery Thoroughly clean the medicine tank, pump, filter, and nozzles. Clean the machine body and remove foreign objects. Entangled materials. For self-propelled boom sprayers, add sufficient fuel and coolant, replenish or replace engine oil, add lubricating oil to the pesticide pump, clean the pesticide pump suction filter, check for any abnormalities or looseness in the nuts of each component, check for tire wear, ensure the boom lifting and lowering are normal, and verify that the system pressure and spray effect of each nozzle meet the operational requirements. Do not enter the underside of the machine for inspection, maintenance, or repair while it is running. No one is allowed to stand within or under the boom's swing range. For agricultural drones, focus on checking the propellers, motors, radar, and battery clips for integrity. Use the control app to check the communication, positioning, power, and spraying systems for normal operation. Test run the centrifugal nozzles, checking for secure installation, smooth rotation, and intact spray discs. Repair any problems immediately. Operators must wear protective equipment during operation to prevent pesticide poisoning.
