Several Methods for Removing Dirt from Agricultural Machinery Parts
I. Removing Oil Stains from Metal Parts
(1) Cold Washing. Use kerosene, gasoline, or diesel as cleaning agents. Place the parts in an oil basin with a mesh screen and scrub with a wire brush. The oil stains will sink to the bottom of the basin through the mesh screen. The cleaned parts can be air-dried. However, it is important to note that for cleaning oil stains on friction plates, a small amount of gasoline should be used to scrub them clean. For oil stains on rubber and leather parts that are not oil-resistant, oil should not be used for cleaning. To save oil and achieve better cleaning results, the cleaner, smoother, and smaller parts should be cleaned first, followed by the larger parts with heavier surface oil stains. Alternatively, the oil can be stored in several oil basins and used for initial cleaning, secondary cleaning, and fine cleaning. The oil used for initial cleaning can be reused after sedimentation, thus saving oil.
(2) Hot Washing. Clean with an alkaline and emulsifier solution after heating. Since engine oil, gear oil, etc., cannot dissolve in alkaline solutions and can only form emulsions, emulsifiers (sodium silicate, soap, etc.) must be added to the alkaline solution. The function of the emulsifier is to penetrate into the oil layer, weaken the bonding force between the oil and the metal, and promote the oil film to break and separate. The solution needs to be heated to 70-80℃, and the parts should be immersed in the solution. After cleaning, the parts should be rinsed with clean water at 60-80℃ and then dried. For removing oil stains from steel and cast iron parts, the commonly used solution formula is: 0.75% caustic soda, 5% sodium carbonate, 1% trisodium phosphate, 0.15% soap, and the remainder is water. However, caustic soda solution cannot be used to clean aluminum parts; instead, sodium carbonate solution should be used.
(3) Cleaning with metal cleaning agents. The parts should be cleaned according to the instructions.
II. Removing scale from the cooling system
(1) Removal method using corrosion-inhibiting hydrochloric acid solution. Acidic solutions have strong descaling ability and high cleaning efficiency. Generally, 8%–10% hydrochloric acid solution is commonly used for acid treatment. However, hydrochloric acid solution has a strong corrosive effect, so a certain amount of corrosion inhibitor is often added during use to reduce the corrosion of metal parts by the hydrochloric acid solution and to remove rust. The commonly used corrosion inhibitor is hexamethylenetetramungsten, generally used at 0.5%–3% of the hydrochloric acid dosage. ① Preparation of corrosion-inhibiting hydrochloric acid solution. Based on the engine cooling system capacity, prepare clean water, add a certain proportion of hydrochloric acid and mix evenly, then add the specified proportion of corrosion inhibitor and stir until the solution is uniform. ② Usage method of corrosion-inhibiting hydrochloric acid solution. Add the prepared cleaning solution to the water tank. After one shift of work, drain the cleaning solution. After the engine has cooled slightly, add clean water, start the engine, clean the hydrochloric acid solution, drain it, and add softened cooling water.
(2) Sodium hydroxide solution cleaning method. Add 2-3g of sodium hydroxide (commonly known as caustic soda) to 100kg of water, stir well, add to the engine water tank, start the engine and run at medium speed for 5-10 minutes, stop the engine and drain the cleaning solution while it is still hot, add clean water and start the engine until the solution is rinsed clean.
(3) Phosphoric acid solution cleaning method. Neither of the above two methods can be used to remove scale from aluminum alloy cylinder blocks and cylinder heads. A 0.3%-6.5% trisodium phosphate solution can be used for cleaning, with a soaking time of 30-60 minutes. Alternatively, a solution prepared with 15g of water glass, 2g of liquid soap, and 1000g of water can be used. Add the solution to the cooling system, start the engine to normal temperature and run for 1 hour, then drain the solution and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
III. Chemical method for removing carbon deposits
Place the carbon-deposited parts in a chemical solution at 80-90℃ and soak for 2-3 hours. After the carbon deposits soften, wipe them clean with a brush or rag. After removing carbon deposits with a chemical solution, wash and dry the parts with hot water at 60-90℃ (with 0.1%-0.3% potassium dichromate added). For removing carbon deposits from steel and cast iron parts, as well as aluminum alloy parts, the commonly used decarbonizing agent formula is: for steel and cast iron parts, 10% caustic soda, 0.5% potassium dichromate, and the remainder water; for aluminum alloy parts, 1.85% sodium carbonate, 0.85% sodium silicate, 1% soap, and the remainder water.
IV. Cleaning of Precision Parts
Before assembly, precision parts should be boiled in diesel fuel at 60-80℃ for 5-10 minutes. After removal, while still hot, immerse them in pure gasoline for cleaning. Use a small test tube brush to remove rust-preventive oil from the holes of the parts. The rust-preventive oil in the oil inlet of the fuel injector assembly should be blown clean with compressed air or repeatedly flushed with high-pressure oil on a fuel injector tester. After cooling, it should be placed in strictly filtered light diesel oil. Gently pull the needle valve, plunger, and outlet valve core back and forth in the body hole while simultaneously rotating them until the slippage requirement is met.
V. Removing Rust from Agricultural Machinery
In the past, methods such as wiping with sandpaper, grinding with a grinding wheel, and scraping with a scraper to remove rust from parts in agricultural machinery maintenance were not ideal. A rust removal method using a coating is introduced here, which is highly efficient and removes rust completely. The coating formula is: 40.5% sulfuric acid, 18.7% phosphoric acid, 4.46% hydrochloric acid, 1% hexamethylenetetramine, 36.34% water, and an appropriate amount of bentonite. Preparation method: Mix all ingredients thoroughly, then add bentonite while stirring continuously until a thick paste is formed. It can be used after standing for 3-4 hours. Instructions for use: ① Apply the prepared coating evenly to the rust-removing surface with a brush, to a thickness of about 1-2 mm; ② Determine the time to remove the coating according to the degree of rust. Light rust requires 40-60 minutes; heavy rust requires about 24-30 hours; ③ Wipe away any coating residue with an old cloth or waste cotton cloth; ④ Do not allow the coating to splash onto your skin or clothing during use.
