When selecting a walking tractor, first check its appearance quality, including the paint quality of the body panels and the manufacturing quality of each component.

The paint should be glossy and even, without any missed spots, peeling, flaking, or rust; external parts should be intact and undamaged. The surfaces of all castings should be smooth and free of cracks, and welds should be flat and strong. For important components such as the engine and body, engine cylinder head, high-pressure oil pump and oil line connectors, drive wheels, frame and gearbox, check that the connecting bolts are complete and reliable, and there should be no serious oil leaks.

Secondly, check that all gauges and lights are complete and functional. You can open the engine decompression lever and slowly crank the engine to observe whether the oil pressure gauge or other oil pressure indicators show a pressure increase.

Thirdly, check that all operating mechanisms are free of jamming and that operation is effective and reliable. When the clutch lever is moved to the "disengaged" position, disengagement should be complete; in the "engaged" position, there should be no slippage; in the "braked" position, the brakes can be checked by manually rotating the tires while stationary. The gearshift lever should provide a clear feel when shifting gears, without any jamming, difficulty in shifting, or inability to engage gears. When stationary, the main gearshift lever should only be able to engage one or no more than two gears from neutral, and should not automatically disengage or shift randomly while moving. To check the steering clutch, engage a gear, place the main clutch in the engaged position, and squeeze the lever; the drive wheel should roll easily. Releasing the steering clutch lever should result in difficulty pushing it. This can also be checked separately on the left and right sides; squeezing one lever should allow it to turn in the opposite direction.

Fourth, start the engine for a running check. Before starting the engine, check the engine oil and gear oil levels, and ensure there is fuel and coolant. Once everything is normal, start the engine and check for starting difficulties. After the engine is running smoothly, observe the color of the exhaust smoke. The exhaust smoke from a diesel engine during normal operation is colorless or light gray. During operation, listen carefully for any abnormal noises from the moving parts. Check the steering of the hand-operated machine for flexibility and the reliability of the brakes. After running for about ten minutes, check the ground for any oil or water leaks.

The safety of the hand-operated machine is crucial to the safety of the operator and others. It is recommended that users choose models with comprehensive safety features. A hand-operated machine with safety guards on the starter claw, power take-off shaft, drive wheel, flywheel, drive belt, exhaust pipe, etc., and with safety warning signs prominently displayed on the frame and fuel tank, is a safe and reliable choice for users.
