PTO of agricultural tractors
Power take-off (PTO) shafts are primarily used by tractors to output engine power while in motion to drive agricultural implements such as rotary tillers, sprayers, harvesters, seeders, and trailers with drive axles. They can also be connected to pulleys to drive stationary agricultural machinery, such as threshers, feed grinders, irrigation and drainage machinery, and power generation equipment. Based on their operating characteristics, PTO shafts can be classified into constant-speed (specified speed) and walk-behind PTO shafts.
The key points of the longitudinally mounted power take-off shaft at the rear of an agricultural tractor are:
(1) When the engine speed is 80%~90% of its rated speed, the power take-off shaft reaches the standard speed of 1000 r/min or 540 r/min.
(2) When viewed in the direction the tractor is moving forward, the power take-off shaft rotates clockwise.
The power take-off shaft end and connecting sleeve are available in three types and sizes:
Type I: Standard speed 540 r/min, maximum allowable power transmission 48 kW, extended end uses a 6-tooth rectangular spline with a nominal diameter of 35 mm.
Type II: Standard speed 1000 r/min, maximum allowable power transmission 92 kW, extended end uses a 21-tooth involute spline with a nominal diameter of 35 mm.
Type III: Standard speed 1000 r/min, maximum allowable power transmission 185 kW, extended end uses a 20-tooth involute spline with a nominal diameter of 45 mm.
Standard speed power take-off shafts are classified into three types according to their transmission method: non-independent, semi-independent, and independent. The degree of independence of the power take-off shaft affects the fulfillment of agronomic requirements.
Non-independent power take-off shaft: When the power take-off engagement sleeve 6 moves to the left and is in the engaged position, the operation and stopping of the power take-off shaft and the drive wheel are controlled by the same main clutch. When the main clutch is engaged, the implement working mechanism and the tractor driven by the power take-off shaft start simultaneously; when the main clutch is disengaged, the implement working mechanism and the tractor stop simultaneously.
